Not staying original can lead to other problems down the road. I would not suggest it. Good Luck.

What upgrades do you have in mind? Change rear end ratio? Dual master cylinder? Split manifold? or ???? Some are easier than others. A few here may have experience on what you are wanting to do. You may find more expertise on other more modification oriented sites. The VCCA is a restoration and preservation oriented club.

I think changing the rear gear ratio would be a good start, also. This can be done by swapping out the rear end or the gear there-in by substituting taller gears from a donor differential or by changing out the whole unit. Both are relatively difficult for a 36, I would think. 37s and up are less a problem owing to the compatibility of the donor units, but still more difficult than for...say, a 40-54 or thereabouts.

I don't know if a Truckstell overdrive unit will fit a 36 torque tube or not.

I don't think there is much you can do to the engine or not.

I think a 3:55 rear end may be a bit too tall for a 207. Don't really know, though.

Good luck with it, whatever you decide.

Best,
Charlie computer

Why would you like to change the diff ratio? The 36 should travel at 60 mph all day, as does my 34 master does.

3.3 gears were being reproduced for 1936 Masters but the parts would run about $1000.
I also have driven my 1934 many miles at 60 MPH.....and a 1934 had a poorer system for oiling the connecting rods.

I hear you on everybody traveling fast on the freeways. I insist on taking the back roads to get out of the way of the CRAZIES. I guess if you intend to take the freeway at their pace you might consider a much later car for that purpose. Save the 36 as it is for local shows and tours. I think most of the folks on the Forum would recommend you not spend the money on upgrading the drive line.
