Several questions. I have been asked by a neighbor to help restore a 36 coupe. Not having any literature from this year, what do the following numbers suggest? Body style: 36-1017, body number: k1302, trim: 53, Paint: 201. Also, where would the serial number for the car be located?

What suggestions might one provide regarding how to tackle the project. The car is an excellent cosmetic shape but has not run for twelve years. Are there any systems that will probably represent a problem given the nature to that year's product?

Finally, how can I determine whether the car is a Master or Standard short of measuring the wheel base?

If its got a KNEE ACTION FRONT SUSPENSION its a MASTER...if it has BEAM AXLE its a STANDARD series.

If you have been reading posts in this 33--36 section you may want to read the trials and tribulations of BENT PUSHROD THREAD. gas tank will need chemically cleaned...most likely wheel cylinders rust inside. Carb will need to be taken apart and rebuilt, flush cooling system, check all hoses for weakness....just a few thoughts.

it does not have to be a standard, to have a "i beam" axle,
the knee action was master only, but masters were built with
with straight axle also, don't know which was standard, or which one was an option, years ago i ran across a master 2dr with a
straight axle,just F Y I,

Thanks for all the help guys. One question that didn't get answered: is there a registration number located somewhere on the car. On the 32 its just under the passenger side seat.

The General Motors of USA aluminum data tag is supposed to be riveted to the engine side of the firewall on the right hand side. On this tag are the machine stamped in numbers to identify body type by fisher along with paint and upholstery and trim plus the serial number and other info.

If there is a tag somewhere else, news to me, but i don't claim expert status.

delong,
The serial number plate should be on the passenger side door sill in front of the front seat. Having said this, this would be based on where they are on '34. The serial number would be a number, two letters and than a long number.
FA would be Passenger with knee action, Master Deluxe
FD would be Passenger less knee action, Master Deluxe
FC would be Passenger, Sedan Delivery, Standard

The Master had a stainless steel stip on running board and the standard did not have this with one exception, the 36 Standard Cabriolet had the stainless steel strip.

Hope this helps, Chris
