The engine in this car has been re-ringed with a complete head rebuild except valve springs. The timing pointer is aligned with the pointer on bell housing. On light throttle increase (not while driving) there is a popping through the carb. This sounds like weak valve springs to me. Opinions? Thanks...JIM

There is a lot more to do here. First you need to set the valves. Follow the instructions in the "Repair Manual" for your year model. (I hope you checked the springs while they were off for all of them being the proper height. I know when I had my head re-done last year we found that the springs were weak even with the proper height. (per the repair manual) I replaced all of them. New springs are not hard to find. Check the keepers also.) Good Luck.

Hi Terril: Bewtween the time I posted and now, I measured each spring (1 cylinder at a time) and found they were 60-65 lbs @ installed height. A set of .030 shims (from our machine shop)under the springs raised the pressure to 95 lbs. which cured the problem. JIM
