My opinion is that the 283 H.P. F.I. engine was NEVER offered as a R.P.O. with Powerglide Transmission. Rather it was only availble with 3 speed manual (and later in the year with 4-speed manual as a dealer installed option).

The 250 H.P. F.I. engine was available with Powewrglide.

I have a friend who is convinced that you could get the Powerglide Transmission as a R.P.O. and 283 HP F.I. He claims that he has seen a 1957 Chevrolet Convertible with this option. Who is correct?

When I was considering buying a convertible fuelie I did a lot of research by talking to those in the know. The consensus was that all 1957 F.I. injected cars came from the factory with a manual three speed. There are a lot of non original cars out there. As has been said on this site before " there are more 57 Matador Red convertibles for sale now than were produced at the factory"

all 57 283 hp cars(pass or corvette) came with standard transmissions. one could not buy a 283HP with powerglide or turboglide. the other FI option, the hydraulic lifter 250 HP engine could be ordered with standard transmissions or automatics. i don't believe any 57 chevy pass cars were available from the factory with the BW 4 speed. the corvettes, starting in about april of 1957, could be had with the BW 4 speed. all the saganaw 3 speeds installed behind the FI engines were of the close ratio type. mike

Yep, and I meant to say all 283 HP cars came with only a 3 speed, not all FI cars.

In short P.G was not available with any engine with solid lifters.
