Many years ago I had a 1948 -1929 Chevy parts business. The name was Curt's Prewar Chevy. Some of you may actually remember me. The business is long gone, but I saved one each of every different hood ornament, particularly the accessory ornaments. So now I am nearing the end of every 1927-1956 hood ornament They are all chrome plated and mounted on bases. I am missing the 1937 production. This is not the master deluxe bird. I have had some people tell me that 37 was like 38, only one ornament. Is my memory failing me? Does anyone have one for sale?

Does anyone have a 29-39 parts book that might make reference to the 37 ornament?

Sorry, I don't have one either. The earliest I have is 1929-1942 edition. I checked it just on the off chance it might have useful info for you and it does not.

Hopefully one of the other guys will have news.

Hello to all,

I have a 1928-40 Parts book. In section 1.265 there are 3 different "Cap Ornament" listings for various 1937 models. 595073 is for GA & GB, 596652 is a "special" for GA & GB, and 595591 is for GC, GD, GE, and S.

I do not know the details of the differences among them.

Is this the information you need?

Thanks fellas, I really appreciate all the input. If GA is master deluxe and GB the master series then 595073 is the part number I am looking for. Then, 596652 is the bird we all know and love.

The accessory hood ornament is listed in the accessory booklet and they were avaiable for both Master and Master Deluxe. I don't remember ever seeing a 37 car without the accessory bird.
Look at the 1937 factory film that was recently posted, all of the 37's pictured looked like they had the accessory hood ornament to me. I know that my 37 Master had an accessory ornament on it when my brother first bought it in about 1956 and I'm quite sure it was on the car from new. Seems like the plain one would be pretty rare. talk

This website shows a 37 'standard' hood ornament. However I don't necessarly agree with all of the drawings of Chevy hood ornaments.

The only one I'm sure of is the 38. Mine looks exactly like the drawing.

If the parts book has three numbers, there must be three. newangel

Chevrolet made models for several countries, in which some were slightly different, maybe that's possible.I know S.Africa and India and some other countries had side mounts, and extra frame bracing which the driveshaft/exhaust pipe went into a hole in the brace.

I would estimate about 40% of the Masters has the low production hood type ornament.

I'll just keep watching eBay. My search is 1935 - 1940.
It is amazing how many people that don't know what they have.

That must be a 595591. I believe the production 37 ornament looks like that sans the mounting base.

You could be right. I don't know. It is all one piece, if that helps decipher the mystery any.

That's the standard or production hood ornament. I had a photograph of one, but can't find it. I scanned part of a magazine ad showing it (below).

I'm not sure if the "production one was released on all cars or just on the Master models, or if the more familiar "bird" was either installed on only the Master-Deluxe at the factory or was an accessory for for models.

This has all been very helpful, thank you. Dick Moffett told me that it didn't exist. Now I am convinced that I am not chasing a ghost, and my memory didn't fail me.
