How is the rear cover over the gas tank attached? There are holes in the top flange but no corresponding holes in the bottom flange of the body. It looks like the spare tire bracket and the frame ends will secure the panel but I want to make sure I'm not missing something. Is welting used between the two panels? Stu Allen

Hi Stu,
Mine had rivets in those holes. I assume they were to hold welting or some other type of gasket. The rest is held by the spare itire cover or in its absence, chrome flat headed bolts and the bottom inner skirt of the fenders.

Yes Pat is correct.........the gas tank cover panel attaches on the side to the fenders using 3 bolts, bringing them together. The top bolt of those 3 attaches to a support bracket attached too the frame. Its about 7--9 inches from the end of the frame. Welting would go onto the top edge of the gas tank cover panel. To stock any squeeking thru frame movement and to hide any gaps between the body and the panel. The 4 bolts for the spare tire bracket also hold it in place. mike

STU.........a word of caution.....make sure that the frame horns where bumper bolts up to, that the gas tank cover does not have a gap between the cover and the frame horn, otherwise when you go to do up the bumper , you will crush the panel in that area.!!!! You might have to use washers between the frame horn and cover to match up any gap. mike lynch

I'll make sure to use spacers as suggested. What do you use for rivets to secure the welting? Stu Allen

Since they're hidden I'm planning to use pop rivets.

I think i used white vinyl very low head bolts that takes blade screwdriver top and same vinyl nut below. You need to keep the top bolt very low profile.
Pretty sure i got them at home depot in the nuts and bolts bins section.
