Getting ready to purchase paint. I have a 33 Chevy Master. Trying to get best paint to use. Laq, base / clear . Car will be use for local shows. Not a daily driver.

House of Kolor has really beautiful paints.Pricey but beautiful.

You can get nitrocellulose lacquer in correct colours for your car from HIBERNIA AUTO RESTORATIONS in NJ i believe..google them..... plus medium dry nitro thinners and nitro grey or red primers.

They also sell those other newer paints.

If you're wanting to use Nitrocellulose lacquer, Bill Hirsch also sells black, clear and primer. They can also do custom colors.

The danger of spraying clear over black paint is :
#1, if you polish thru the clear coat, the black paint below will appear a different colour. You have to respray it , the clear coat, again.

#2...Also original type nitro clear, will yellow over time and its not wise to clear coat.

#3...most of the cracking you see on lacquer jobs is because there is too much clear material on the car.

#4 The depth on black and other colours is achieved thru the applying of multiple coats of paint. Nitro is basically opaque and requires a lot of paint to achieve depth.

Yes its much easier to spray base clear coat paints, just not in your garage or driveway.

I am in the process of painting my 47 and am using singe stage urethane enamel. I bought the Omni which is PPG's cheaper line. So far I have most of it painted and am happy with the results.

My car was painted with the single stage urethane 12 years ago and still looks good. It was wet sanded and hand polished after painting and touch up when needed is not complicated.
