I'm trying to make sure I have enough of the correct tail light for these cars. I have 2 LH with stainless around the license light bulb. One RH with closed off where the license lamp would go through also with stainless. Both lights the stainless is triangler. The 4th light I have would be for the LH. It has no stainless & it's not indented in that area for stainless neither. The parts books are a little vague. Can anybody give me some thoughts please? Thanks, Joe

My 1934 Master had the stainless on both sides.
My GUESS would be the 1933 and 1934 Masters had the stainless and the 1933-1935 Standards did not.
The lights sold for replacement usually were more or less fits all type.

Gene is correct. The plain lamp is for a Standard series car '33-'35. The "stainless to, which you refer, might be chrome plated brass.
I need a RH lamp for my '35 Standard. I will probably end up making one.

So do the parts books actually say there is a specific right side tail light bucket.??????

My 35 coupe has right side tail light bucket with the bulb hole , but it has the stainless triangular cover.

Not really sure if i have ever seen a right side tail light bucket without the bulb hole.

I do have one one tail light bucket without a tail light hole, but the rear mounting area is much longer and no provision for the stainless trim.

The rear mounting area on a correct bucket with the license plate hole is 2 1/4" long...............the other without hole is 2 3/4" long. Both accept the 33--36 tail light bezel & lens. The bucket with no hole and longer , the shape of the bucket is slightly different to accomodate the longer mounting area. Will send a couple of pictures to joe.

Guys, just buy a left side tail light and make it into a right. You can buy the right side cover from I&I. The original ones they made had the writing stamped the wrong way, but the current ones are the correct direction. It is not a bad repo, not great but it works and looks good.

I can post some pictures of my tail lights if you would like to see them.

You also know that the rivets are chrome on these lights.

Mike Lynch,
Does your "odd" lamp attach to the bracket via the angled 1/4-20 captured nut, or does it have a L bracket on the back?

my odd 33-36 tail light pot does not have an angled bracket attached on the back , i know the type your referring to.

The attaching area now that i really study it has 3 .....1/8" holes in a V pattern where a bracket like your talking about could have been attached.

The area where the mounting arm would mate up to it is 2 3/4" long

This pot does NOT have an opening for a license plate bulb .

If you send me an email too mike350 at rogers dot com i will take some pictures and send them too you.

I believe now that this tail light pot would be for 35---36 master series right hand. It uses the same tail light lens and bezel as 33-34-35 standard and 33 - 34 master.

Now off in search of some pictures of 35-36 masters. Can send pictures of tail light pot to somebody with 35-36 master to confirm what it is.

I have a '35 Std Coupe, and wanted a right side tail light for years, for safety and visibility reasons. After about five years of searching at Hershey, the G&D, and swap meets and Hemmings, I finally bought a left side and welded in a block-off for the license light. At the time, I was not aware that I&I made the chrome one. It may not be 100% correct, but it looks good and functions perfectly. I no longer attend Central Meets, but when I did and showed the car, it was never questioned or points deducted. I will trade safety for a little
authenticity any time; just my two cents! Phil Lipton

PHIL , saftey is always an issue and you want to make the car as visable as possible to those following you.

Ron Francis Wire Works makes BRIGHT BULBS that are 20--25% brighter than stock. You can run these and if your running a ***lighter red *** coloured lens like the stock ones, that when you hit the brakes it really stands out.

Harley davidson motorcycles on their deckers used to have those what looked like mini cowl lights with red lens, all over the rear of the bikes, can be run one on each side of luggage rack as a 3rd brake lite. I run a pair on my 35 coupe.

Thank you for your input, Mike! My answer to the 'brightness' problem was to convert the lamps to LED's. It was not cheap, but the benefits were well worth the cost! They are bright, last longer than bulbs, not as subject to vibration, and use less current! I was able to do the installation without removing the stock bulb sockets, so return to stock can be done
in 15 or 20 minutes. Before, after dark, I was always worried that someone wouldn't see that one little tail light and climb
up my back bumper. Phil

phil, your right thats the perfect choice for the tail lights to really brighten them up without having to resort to GE HP1 100 watt halogen bulbs that would with a pair draw 40 amps and you would need a circuit breaker for the pair.

I have heard that painting the inside of your tail lithe white will make it brighter. I've been told it will be brighter thas silver. Haven't tried it myself.
Have a MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Yes white, a bright white, a silver colour and now they have spray bombs that has paint that looks like chrome that would be the best reflecter inside the tail light pot.

I also used small shiny aluminum tart shells in tail light pots once, as reflectors to increase light reflection.

Just another idea, the new chrome paint is better.

I have used "Dupli-Color Chrome" part number cs101, spray enamel with great results. The trick is to spray VERY light coats with 30 minute dry time between coats. The directions on the can do not tell you that. JIM

I thought I would jump in here to make sure you all know that the glass lenses for 33-36 are not the same.

There are two different styles, the 33 thru 35 Standard have the entire lower half of the len made to reflect the stop light bulb and the 35 Master and 36 have a circular lens for the stop light portion, the area around the circle is used to provide additional reflex for added safety should the tail light be out.
