Found this under the Christmas tree / workbench. Its a nice used Super Deluxe Heater Defroster for our '47, which has the plain old defroster that decided to quit working. So the goal will be to drop this in its place after freshening this puppy up. The motor works great and there's no noise or slop in the bearings or shaft. I can't wait to get it in there! Santa did a great job this year. Thanks Santa Dad!

Naturally I've got some questions for the VCCA gurus.

-Does anyone know where I can score the installation instructions for one of these? It looks like it just hangs off the back of the firewall with three studs, washers, and nuts. I'm sure its pretty straight forward but I'd like to see if we need any additional mounting brackets or clips or anything. I noticed there's a good picture of a couple on 1948Chevy.com and it shows the finish and assembly really well.

-I also think the heater core outlet & inlet tubes are in a different spot than the defroster. Are these in the spot on the firewall where there's the two 'knockout plugs' near the defroster core location?

-Any suggestions for gently cleaning the bakelite knobs? I have used laundry soap & a toothbrush before but I don't want these to crumble or dry out more. They're in really good shape and I just want to clean the dirt off & brighten them up a bit.

Anyone else have one of these or installed one?
chevy Thanks, and Happy 2013 VCCA friends! chevy

That's a great Christmas gift...! I don't have one, but I have admired them from afar. lol Now, as I remember Gene telling me that this will also blow fresh-air if you hook-up vent to the engine compartment...AND to do that, you'll need to see if you can win an eBay auction for the original "AIR" switch to add under the dash beside the "FOG" "HEAT" & "DEF"...WOW, gonna get crowded with all them switch's. lol

I just installed the same in my 48 a few months ago. It is all straight forward. The three studs go thru the firewall, and the plugs in the firewall come out for the lines to pass through. Dont forget to rubber insulate the lines and get a 12 reducer for the 6 volt motor. I hooked mine up 2 speed. with the windows down during the Christmas parade the grandkids were saying the heater works to good ...in the back seat even! Havent figured out to post pics yet. Painted and pinstriped mine!

Daryl, looks great, you must be one happy guy,I have the under seat model in my 48...Unfortunatly it was there when I got the car and it was installed in the wrong location so I had to shim the seat to slide over it...You will not have that problem

It is a great unit and looks really nice when you get them all cleaned up. Be careful with the plastic knobs they are a bear to find! I took out my underseat heater when I found my super deluxe unit, and yes they do work excellent!! Very easy to install to the firewall. Just be careful when cutting the defroster hose on the right side to fit to the duct. GREAT GIFT!!! Enjoy it!!!!

Chevrolet offered that heater for more than one year so there could have been changes in color.

Great score Daryl it's KOOL to get gifts for our Fleetlines. That Super Deluxe Heater looks to be in great shape, Good to know that you could treat the plastic knobs with soap, I've noticed that my wiper knob is looking dry. Not sure what brand Heater my car has I know it's not the Deluxe model, It just has a door and you close it when you want defroster and open it when to heat car I guess you could do it half way and have both but I don't need to worry cuz I won't be driving it much in winter...Can't wait to see it installed...
