Is the vacuum line going from the engine through the firewall to the vacuum wiper motor suppose to be rubber? Specifically where it passes through the fire wall. wazzup

The metal line extends straight back from the manifold fitting about 4 " and the bends up at a 45 degree angle and continues another 1 or 2 inches.The rubber vac. hose slips onto it at that point and runs thru the firewall to the wiper motor.
