All the info I had looked at in the past shows the Unity spotlight as the correct accessory for the 48...I just got the Chevrolet History Pictorial and if you look real close at the accessory display for the 48 the spotlight displayed is a Guide light, correct???Was it in 48 when Guide Lamp Co.became affiliated with GM???This would then make sense why all the Guide parts started to pop....Thoughts please

Merry Christmas! I'll let someone like Gene give us the details, but I believe Guide was the GM supplier for many, many years before 1948. I've always heard that Unity was an aftermarket supplier.

Guide is General Motors..... A Division of GM. 1948 was kind of a change over year for spot lights. The Unity was in 1947and in 1948 both Guide and Unity show up. The trucks used Unity till much later. See page 129 of 1940-1954 Chevrolet History. Te accessory display shows a Guide spot light.

Thanks Gene for the verification, there has been alot of discussion about the correct light and because I have both,I'm glad I installed the right one "Guide"...The unity has the replacable crest on the head which I have seen stamped with other then the GM script

Thanks for that handy bit of information...I don't think I'll ever go for the spot-light look, though. It's just another place for birds to perch...!

This makes me recall my high school days. A buddy had a nice '40 with a spot light. He enjoyed running the "lover's lanes" with his lights out - til he hit 'em with that spot light. He came in one night with about a 1-inch hole in the back of it. Someone shot it almost off of the car!

I have been working on my 47 restoration project and ran across the box with the fog lights and spot light. The fog lights have the tag on the top and are guide, but the spot light does not have a tag only a chrome piece on the bulb that has GM on it. Would this have been a universal GM dealer add on? I bought this car in 1968 when I was 15, and I am the third owner, but the first two where in the same family.

The Guide spotlight has no additional markings except "made in the USA on the bottom of the handle...Of course I could be wrong

If it has the GM then it will be a Guide. Guide was a division of GM
