I have 1955 Bel Air 2-dr hardtop VIN VC55N******. The cowl plate displays a paint code of 612 N-SPEC. I understand this is for India Ivory over Regal Turquise Poly, but I have not found anything for the N-SPEC. From the VIN I gather the vehicle was built in Norwood, OH, so not sure it stood for Norwood Special or for something else.

Does anyone know what the N-SPEC stands for?

Thank you,
Dennis

The "spec" is for the special two tone, the rear deck and upper quarter panels being ivory. The "non-speial" would have been a white top only. Very few at the very beginning of production were painted that way. The special two-tone is what made the styling of the car really show-off.

Thank you for the information. I really like the SPEC look much better, but on the other hand, having a somewhat rarer paint scheme is nice also.

Thank you again and Merry Christmas,
Dennis
