Hi-

I have seen repop headlight stands that are advertised for 37 and 39 gmc trucks. Are they really the same? I have a cracked drivers side and have started looking for another one. Is there a way to repair them. I did not think potmetal is repairable.

Thanks,
Brent

I doubt that 37 Chev truck and 39 GMC are the same head light bracket. The 37 bracket was used only in that year. The bracket used on 36 Chev passenger cars look identical, but they have a slightly different contour where they mount to the radiator shell. I know as I installed a car bracket on my 37 pickup many years ago and it is still on the truck but needs to be changed. Usually they break when you tighten them down. Mine didn't break and I do have the correct one that I look at every once in awhile. Someday I will change it!

Well, that is intresting, the re pop just seemed a little different but I did not have one in my hand to compare. My drivers side is cracked, I have been thinking on fixing the crack and making it look nice for a plug. Then take it to a local foundry to have a new one made out of brass. I will have to see what the cost is. Maybe I sell some of the castings on ebay if they turn out right. It seems that those stands command fairly high prices.

Well,

I decided to fix the cracked mount. Pulled it off and drilled the end of the crack, got some good epoxy and a pop can. I trimmed a piece of the pop can for the under side of the mount. Applied the Epoxy and place the pop can piece over it for strenght. With some tlc, You'll never be able to tell it was cracked until you look on the back side. Can't see it anyway.

Just thought I'd post my fix.

Take care.

From my parts book, it looks like '37 truck headlight support is all by itself. You might try the Brighton swap meet June 5-6 or Martins Salvage. He always has a lot of good truck parts. Ron

Ron,

Thanks for the input, I have been out to Martins many times over the years. No 37 chevy trucks, there is on 36 though. The Brighton swap meet sounds intresting.
