Does anyone know the correct width and spacing between the 2 stripes on the wheels for 40 Chevs? Not going to worry about the one near the rim. Decided on wheel rings instead.

I know ChevNut had this information a while back for 39's, but since 40's are odd ball, I'm sure it's different than 39 and 41.

And does using pin striping tape for the wheels seem feasible, or is the radius too small fo use tape

Hello DocB
I will send you a hard copy of the exact spacing of the pin striping on a 1940 16" wheel.

Actually the striping was the same from 1940-48-as were the wheels.

I have seen very good tape stripe jobs done on wheels. The plastic tape stretches enough to conform to the circle. Also easy to do and redo if not up to your expectations.(and inexpensive)

Thanks guys. The reason I asked is that I finally found a couple sources for pinstriping tape on the internet and they have a color that seems like it should be pretty close to "Blazon Blue". I'm assuming that 3/16" would suffice for the body belt stripe and 1/4" for the wheels.

And forgot to ask, but is the color of the 2 stripes on the bumper supposed to be Black, regardless of the color of the car? Looks like it in the pictures. When I plated the bumpers myself (for Toolman, it was at Harshaw Chemical Co. in Cleveland, when I worked there) 25 years ago, the stripes got overlooked. Looks pretty good without them, but it's not correct.

The bumper stripes as well as the matching stripes in the guards were black.

Thanks, ChevNut. Found some 1/4" Black pinstriping tape at Auto Zone, and will use that on the bumpers. Might leave the bumper gaurds 'as is'. Don't know. Those are awfully vague indentations to work with.
