Okay. Well, at least the 1938 Chevrolet parts book answered the question about anti-squeak being used between the fender and the running board.

Steele rubber is very accurate about rubber parts. I think a complete rubber kit for a 38 chevy was something like $2100. Very expensive. I guess if you shop for the best it costs a alot.

I don't think a pack of rubbers should cost that much......ED

Well I think that is a really nice looking Master. However I know of one part that is not original. The rocker panel on the driver's side has been replaced with one of the poorer reproductions that does not follow the curve of the door. You can see that it has been cut, bent out to create a curve and there is a triangular hole as a result. I am about to install a new rocker on the driver's side and my rocker is made by EMS and it has the correct curve.

I want to correct my comments on the car in the video. I guess what I was looking at is the stripping that goes between the rocker and the running boars to stop mud from splashing through. Is that strip supposed to be the same color as the body?

Since this thread is about 1938 running boards, were they originally all painted black at factory or body color?

Thanks Gene. I've seen both all black and body color on top and wasn't sure which way they left the factory.

That is really interesting. I guess that probably got painted in place along with the body.

Assuming Old216's comment is correct about painting the runningboards after they were installed, does that mean the runningboards were painted in laquer and not enamel? thx. Billu38

The body proper was painted at the Fisher Body plant.
The "sheet metal" (hood, fenders, running boards) was painted at the Chevrolet plant. These parts were painted before they were assembled to the car body. From what I can see the running boards on my '39 are lacquer.
Wheels were enamel.
