I'm positive I saw a thread on this subject within the last month or so, but after almost 2-hours of searching, I'll be danged if I can find it, so I'm giving up and asking y'all. If it has been on here recently, I apologize for the redundancy!!

In any event, I just picked up the Chevy Safetylight pictured below at the spring Carlisle Swap Meet and I believe it's correct for '37 - '39 Chevys. The handle is black and the outside housing is pitted, but salvageable. The rest of the unit appears to be in great shape - even the glass is in excellent, unbroken condition. Can anybody confirm it's for '37-'39?
The nameplate (3rd pic) reads:

GM
Safetylight
Model S-1
Pat Nos. 1497898, 1702772, 1813875, 1940348

The last patent number was issued in 1933, but I think the light is later. Any info would be appreciated!
Thanks,

chevy -Bob

I also recall the "Safetylight" thread. The S-1 was the first type or number used.I believe that it was 1936.The 1937-38 and ? '39 was S-2 and the 1941 S-3.According to my 1940 parts book all of the main parts were the same except for the mounting bracket. Is there a casting number on the outter bracket??The bracket on your lamp looks as if it were for a car with a very slight slope to the windshield pillar.

P.S.
Also check in the parts for sale or wanted catagories.

Thanks for the feedback, guys!

Gene, I don't see any casting numbers, but then the outer bracket is pretty heavily pitted. Just holding it up to my '37 coupe, the outer bracket appears to be close to the body curvature, but..... Looks like a case of "close, but no cigar!!".

Thanks again,
chevy -Bob
