Is my Chevrolet thing at the right height? I looked at dozens of photos and the majority are about like that. The illustration on the sales booklet looks about like that too.

My friend Myles & I looked through the pictorial history of Chevrolet this evening & from what it looks like is the spacing from the chrome to the top of the emblem is about 1" more than the spacing of the crank hole cover to the chrome.... so like you have it 1.5" on the bottom & 2.5" on the top...Joe

That would make me 1/8 " low. Close enough for me. Thanks Joe.

I can just see it now, some car show judge whipping out his tape measure to make sure that the grill emblem is in exactly the correct spot. Then deducting points for 2 low or 2 high.

Then you engage him in conversation about how come you do not have to use original paint type and no points are deducted ?

Sometimes its all a bit silly.

Mike, for some people, restoration is like playing a symphony. Each note, beat and tone has to be right on. That can be achieved when you start with a complete car. In my case, I made sure I had all '34 Chevrolet parts. I cheated a bit on the color, fasteners, and the front seat, which is from a sedan. However, I can see where people could get a kick of getting it as close as the factory did as they possibly can. Personally, I want it to look like a '34 Chevy, drive like a '34 Chevy, but given what I started with (on the Previous photo corner at right) I think I did OK.

Pat,
I checked the NOS grill I'm working with and the centerline of the badge is located 5.25" below the top of the grill (without the surround). Yours looks right. I have to paint the black background and alternate strips on mine due to shelf wear. I spent 6 hours today buffing out the chrome strips.
