Is the Chevrolet emblem on the 41 license plate assembly stainless or chrome. When I try to polish the one in the picture my rag turns immediately black indicating it is probably stainless. If so I should be able to polish out any light scratches, etc.? A friend says his is chrome. Where both chrome and stainless available in 41? Thanks, Mike

P.S. I am aware that the rest of the bright work is chrome

Does a magnet stick? I know some stainless is ferromagnetic but the stainless on my '38 is not. Just a thought.

A magnet does stick to the stainless I have on my car and on the emblem. I assume that because of the metal under the stainless this could be why it does? However, if I stick a magnet on stainless trim that is isolated from any other metal the magnet still sticks? So is the emblem chrome plated or stainless? Thanks, MIke

Some stainless steel alloys are magnetic, depending on which metals the steel is mixed with There are three major grades of stainless: Austentic, Fernite, Martensitic. These grades are determined by the amount and percentages of different metals they are mixed with.

Your right...All the stainless on my '47 is magnetic, also. That means it's a 400 series...Probably 409.

Checked my Jaguar while I was out there...It's not magnetic...Tried checking the neighbors, too. But he ran me off...
