Several aftermarket companies made accessories for those cars. Manifold heaters fit over the exhaust manifold and channel the hot air from passing past the hot metal to the passenger floor or toe board. Reports from those that have them is that they work very well, even in the summer.

I had one on f@@@ and it would melt plastic that was close by and almost heat the car in winter but worked great in summer.
I now have one to use in my 29 chevy which will not be installed.

I have one on my 1930 Coupe and it works fine. I installed it because the early (31) Chevy radio and sidemount made it impossible to use a hot water heater.

Since Chevrolet didn't have a radio in 1931 it sounds like your radio is probably an aftermarket item.

It's got the Chevrolet logo on the front with wooden dial knobs and has an on/off key. What year was the first radio?

That sounds like a 1933 Radio. They were able to be retrofit to earlier years.

jack39rdstr is correct...the radio sounds like it is the model 364441 radio which was the first genuine Chevrolet accessory radio. The radio was offered for the 1933 model year.
