Well, I bought another 39 Master Deluxe 2-dr Town Sedan. This one is drivable unlike the disassembled one in my garage! (Anyone interested in a disassembled project car :) w/some NOS parts!) Anyway, I know some of these questions have been answered by Gene, but I can't find the threads. I have an early model (built in Flint Jan39) with the dark instrument gauges. The exterior color is Mars Gray. Here goes:
- Front License Plate Bracket: Gloss or flat black?
- Were chrome headlamp rings offered or only those painted same as body?
- Were the following accessories offered on the early models: low/high bird hood ornament, front grille and rear trunk center bumper guards, right side interior sun visor, and running board moldings?
Gene's pretty good about guessing which cars people have bought - perhaps he'll recognize this one? I'm sure I'll have more questions.
Regards to all, Ralph

You're absolutely right that Gene's your best bet on those questions. He's been a great help to me on several occasions.

Ralph-The license bracket is painted the color of the car.
The early cars had the painted headlamp rims-late chrome
The High Bird was an accessory on the early-low bird standard on late Master DeLuxes
Front and rear center guards and right sun visor accessories on all.
Running board mouldings standard on M.D--Cheap Master 85 had a pressed in painted make believe moulding.
Chrome side grilles were an accy. for early M.D. and all M 85--standard on late M.D.
Master DeLuxe 4 door had R & L arms rest in front--2 doors had left only.M 85 had none but they were an accessory.

Thanks Gene! I'm asking these questions because my disassembled 39 is a late model so I'm wondering which options/accessories I can "move over" to the early model. It sounds like I should retain my painted headlamp rims and torpedo hood ornament because I want to maintain an "original" flavor.
Along the same lines - another question: Were the Town & Country horns offered on the early model?
By the way, I was looking at the picture you sent me of your car. Is yours also Mars Gray or one of the greens. I'm told the formulas are no longer available for Mars Gray (245), but I haven't checked with PPG yet.
Take care!

The painted head lamp rims should remain. The high bird was the accy. hood ornament sold for the early cars-came from the factory with the "torpedo". Town and country horns were available for all. My '39 is Ridge Green-dark green- but my color is off-not as bright as the correct color. The driver is not too bright either

Hi Chevgene, Our club historian brought in the club scrapbook, from the last Anniversary Meet in Springfield, Tuesday to our regular monthly meeting. Couldn't miss the pictures of your 39. Nice display of all the tools and jack in the trunk.

HAAA: You Guys are making me jealous with all of your Chevy talk. I just purchased my dream car, A 39 two door Master 85. I realy wanted a four door Deluxe but I am very satisfyed with this two door. I havn't even driven it yet & I have had it home for two weeks already. The car hauling co. that delivered it realy crunched the roof & a few other things. So I won't drive it till it is fixed. I have so many things that I want to know about 39 Master 85s that I don't know were to begin? I want all of the bells & whistles that belong on the 39 Chevy's but I'm not totaly consirned if they are totaly correct for my 85, I will be putting a 261 motor with a auto trans in it soon. I don't have a clutch leg, so I will need an automatic to be safe driving it. This is a very nice original "re-done" car & I want it to look original with my few modifing touches. I already have a outside visor & fender skirts, fog lights & a spot light on the driver side. But I want more. Chrome head light rings - Chrome running board molding - center grill & trunk guards. I also need the rear two bumper guards. The ones on my car are off of a 37, I think? I want so much??? You guys must stop making me jealous with all of the fun you are having with your toys...
I'm a shadetree fixit man- I fixit were ever I am-a little bailing wire & a good pair pliers & I'm on the road again-Caus I'm a shade tree fixit man

The best way to learn what is correct for your 1939 is to obtain all the available literature available. It is all available in excellant quality reprint form today at a very resonable cost.First obtain a catalog from www.fillingstation.com.....Available is the color sales catalog, shop manual, owners manual, body manual,Engineering Features book, accessory book(this one is more expensive at $45.00) but contains a ton of info, including installation instructions of all accessories. There is also a color accy. book for $8.00-nice to have. If your Master 85 has the original running boards it will be difficult to install the Master DeLuxe chrome mouldings. The M 85 had a raised fake moulding pressed into the R.B.-would be difficult to get a moulding installed over it.

Ha ChevGene: I for one, will take your advice & check out what the filling station might have in paper back, to help me deside what I want on my ride. I know the filling station very well. I have visided them at there store a few times in the past for my 47 Aerosedan. Thanks...DW
