I have a .fair amount of play in the steering. How can I find out if it is the box or front end.Can I take some of it out by adjustment of the box. If so how? Does anyone rebuild them. Thank you, Ed

Check for a loose idler arm also. It should not have any up and down slop. Also could have a broken spring in the short drag link connection.
On a 1952 the only adjustment is turning in the pit man shaft adjusting screw (under the fender)....common for the steering gear to be wornout due to lack of lubrication.

If you do not own a reproduction shop manual I suggest your purchase one. There are several other reasons why some extra free play is created in steering, tire pressure, wheel bearings, tie rod ends, drag link ends, worn parts in the steering gear box, oncorrect centering of the steering gear. There is adjustment available but it needs to be done according to the manual. In the interim try this site for an online manual.
