I have recently aquired a 39 Master 85 2dr sedan, the drive shaft and torque tube have been cut and I see that there is a 38 drive shaft and rear end for sale in the classifieds. Can I use that as a replacement? What other years could I use.
Thanks for any help

Torque tubes and driveshafts are all the same dimension for 1937, 38, & 39. You would want to use the ring and pinion out of your Master 85 as that is the economy rear end or should be with a 3.72 ratio vs 4.11 used for the Master Deluxe. Install new propeller shaft bushings and seal when you do the job.

I have a complete assembley for a 1940, dissambled now, that if you can use any parts from I would sell. By a assembly I mean from the front of the tork tube & drive shaft to a complete rear end. Let me know if this will help.

What is the difference of what? just the differentials? The 1939 Master Deluxe has a 4.22 ratio and the Master 85 a 3.73 ration. The ring gear and pinion are different-thats all. This means the M.D engine is turning over alittle more than 3200 RPM at 60 MPH and the M. 85 2800 RPM.This was done to increase gas milage on the M 85 with a slight loss in power. Also allows a higher crusing speed on the M 85.This also applies to the 1937-40 years-except 1940 had a 4.11 ratio rather than a 4.22.

Other differences-The M85 has a solid front axle and leaf springs-the M.D. coil springs up front.M.D also has more "DeLuxe trim" and features.
