Can anyone tell me how to remove the key lock and lock mechanism from an old chevy exterior door handle.I have the key for the lock.

Looking for some help in the removal of the lock and lock mechanisim of a 1940 chevy ext door handle. I do have the key that works the lock, need this removal procedure to have this handle re-chromed

The lock is held in the handle by a pin on the shaft of the handle. It is small and goes thru the handle shaft. A small punch will remove it and then the lock and shaft will come out. Be careful not to lose the lock cross piece in the end of the handle as it will fall out as the lock is removed. Chuick
