What is the proper type of rear 1/4 windows for a 1940 Special Deluxe Coupe. Slideing or stationary? Was this a option or accessory to have sildeing/

Thank You

I'm not the final authority on this, but I believe the Business Coupe, both special Deluxe and Master Deluxe had a sealed rear quarter window. The Coupe 4 (4 passenger coupe or Sport Coupe) had the sliding rear quarter window. This information is from my restoration pack that I recently received from GM.

I'm positive that my 1940 Special Deluxe Business Coupe has a sealed back quarter window. wazzup

Only the Special DeLuxe Sport Coupes (club coupes) have the sliding rear quarter windows. The business coupes in the 1939-42 Special DeLuxe series were fixed windows. This is also true for the 4 door Special DeLuxe Sport Sedans Which shared many of the sliding quarter window parts with the club coupe.

Big Bob & Chevgene,

Thanks for responding. What I have is a 1940 Special Deluxe Coupe KA 5 Pasanger . Does this mean I should have stationary Rear 1/4 Windows?

Thank You

Jerry,
I have a 1940 Chevrolet Dealer album called "Chevrolet 1940 Invites You to Sit Behind the Wheel".

Quote: Ventilating rear quarter windows are provided in the Special Sport Sedan and Four-Passenger Coupe, and in all Town Sedan Models.

Quote: Special Deluxe Four Passenger Coupe...Special Features...Built-in, illuminated luggage compartment; enclosed tire carrier...Full width front seat cushion, divided back...Full width rear seat, removable...Assist straps...Sliding rear-quarter windows...Package shelf at rear window..Arm rest at driver's seat...Dome lamp; two tail and stop lights; center license plate lamp.

I see no mention of a 5 passenger coupe. I see it referred to as a 5 window coupe.

I am not an authority on 40 chev's, I'm still learning myself. Chevgene probably knows the five passenger/4 passenger issue, as he has forgot more about old Chev's than most of us have ever learned. laugh laugh

The Sport Coupe or 4 passenger coupe had the sliding windows. The business coupe had no rear seat and gas filler was below the quarter window as tank was inside the car -under a wood platform. And the qtr. windows were stationary. The gas filler on the Sport Coupe( 4 passenger coupe or club coupe) was on the top rear of the rear fender.

Chevgene & BigBob

I thank you for your input. I do have a 4 not 5 pasanger Coupe, finger hit the wrong button. Now all I need is to find the rear 1/4 slidding windows.

Thank You
