My 34 Master has the rear spare tire and as I reassemble the car after 25 years apart, I'm confused (more than normal!) There is a casting with 4 bolt holes that apparently is part of the spare tire support system. Does it go under the sheet metal welded to the frame or does it sit between the frame sheet metal and the rear body sheet metal panel?

Stuscar, it bolts to four corresponding nuts in the center of the frame's rear crossmember. The nuts are permanently attached to the bottom side of the frame. This casting goes between the frame and the body, and the spare tire mount is attached to the casting with three bolts.

There are (4) four capture nuts on the frame. The rear panel goes over that section of the frame and then the spare tire mount is attached to the 4 capture nuts - at least that is the way I remember how it went together. What is the casting part? I don't remember seeing one on my car. Also there should be a rubber piece between the spare tire mount and the rear panel.

Huuuuuuuum/, i think there were pads.

Using my I and I reproduction catalogue page 70 it shows part # ST06-S
1934 -35 standard SPARE TIRE PAD ( also ) 1934 master 4 door sports sedan $10.00 each in 2011 this is the trianglular pad with 3 holes that sits on top of the metal spare tire mount...no idea why this would not be on the other master models with rear mounted spare ????

1934--1935 MASTER----SPARE TIRE PAD Part # ST06-M $10.00 in 2011. This is the 4 holes HORSE SHOE shaped rubber pad that goes between the sheet metal rear crossmember/gas tank cover panel and the SPARE TIRE METAL MOUNT.

Also fits 36 standard chevrolet

If I and I does not have them , see THE FILLING STATION, and if they do not have them contact the manufacturer, lynn steele rubber products in denver NC

NOTE........don't forget to run your tap thru the frame crossmember nuts 3/8 fine i think ?? Use some tapping fluid on the tap f9or clean smooth operation.

I am assembling a 34 Master sport sedan Body 569 has trunk molded into body). There are 4 3/8" fine thread bolts that go in the threaded bores on the frame above the fuel tank. There are 2 more fasteners (bolt&nut style) that go through the rear frame crossmember. The second piece goes through the sheet metal (sealed by a triangle shapped rubber seal {from Steele Rubber}w/3 holes) that the outside tire carrier bolts to. JIM

Thanks for the responses. There is no part # on the casting, just an A2 mark. I didn't realize that the frame cross member had the captured nuts. I can feel them but the threads are pretty much gone. The casting is about 7/8" thick with the 4 bolt holes that match the frame holes and includes the 4" hole in the center. Since the frame is tapped, this must be a spacer between the frame and the rear body panel.
I looked at a 4-DR Master last week that didn't appear to have this casting so perhaps it was unique to the 2-DR Coach?
Thanks for your help.

Note that the tire carrier for the 4 door with the built-in trunk is very different from the trunkless models. The 2 door with truck uses parts for that model only. The 4 door with trunk has the frame and tire carrier extended beyond that of a trunkless model. The trunkless 2 and 4 door are the same in that area. The parts book lists capturd nuts (4) for late 1934 models.

You can hold the cap-nuts in the frame with a 3/4" open/box wrench while a 2nd person either bottom taps the threads or drills and installs a 3/8" fine thread heli-coil. The 5th & 6th bolts go through the rear frame cross-member and are regular nuts & bolts...JIM

Stu , if threads are gone in the 4 nuts under the rear crossmember.....supposed to be 3/8 coarse thread...........you should be able to easily drill and tap the next bolt size....for 7/16......for 7/16 FINE thread you will need a 25/64 drill and for a 7/16 coarse you will need the letter drill U .

If they are really chewed up you might have to go to 1/2 inch fine thread.......29/64 drill, and for coarse thread 27/64 drill bit
