Well I've been pretty excited the last couple of weeks, and asking lots of questions here because I was supposed to be picking up a 37 business coupe.

However I got a call and the owner apparently hurt the engine somehow so the sale is off.
I'm pretty dissappointed.

After I bought all those manuals and parts books too. bonk

Just think how you`d feel if you brought it home and the engine blew ...so maybe it`s a chance to get the price down and fix it . With all the great help here I believe it can be done! Bought my `40 Special Deluxe in June and all was running great. After a couple hundred miles it started to make a funny whine noise. I decided to fix it myself and with the vast knowledge of the folks on this site I`ve just about completed the task of replacing the timing and crank gears ,,,,new rear seal...general cleaning and painting of parts ....de-gunking the rocker assembly that was 90% clogged. So, maybe it`s an oportunity for you to move again on the car. Good luck ! Martinomon

iagree

Why in the world should a "hurt" engine jinks a deal? Merely adjust the price some and there you go. You'd expect that the engine may have problems anyway or that you would want to go through it some: either a rebuild or an exchange. As my friend from Florida would say, "Sounds like a bunch of s--t, to me." potty

Mercy! Looks like the owner has merely come up with a lame excuse to keep the car. Maybe he had a better offer. Something, anything but "hurt." monkey

Make him an offer that you'll take the car as is. Engines and repairs thereto are relatively cheap.

Good luck,

Old 216 engines are cheap. I've seen several here and other places willing to give them away. I couldn't give my old engine away and I included the engine stand. I ended up selling it for scrap ...$44
MR Hill is right, don't let that stop the deal, just offer less. I'm sure he's not going to just let it set forever himself.Just my two cents. MR Hill is right. winner

O I tried working a deal for lesser money, but he's not interested.
Says he'll contact me when fixed.

I also am wondering if he got a better offer, or simply changed his mind.

Guess i'll just keep working on my Stude instead.

I can certainly understand your disappointment. HOWEVER, the whole thing sounds kind of "fishy." You might be better off not getting that car. I suggest you let the dust settle and see if he calls. You could always call in 2-3-4 weeks and see what he has to say at that time.

I reckon something like this has happened to many of us. I try to remember to "Don't count the chickens until they hatch." it happened to me on a couple of things, got that pecular itch and started collecting information, cleaning out a place in the shop, buying manuals and study all up and the deal goes South!
