Where is the VIN plate located on a 1940 Chevy sedan delivery? Also do the running boards mount to the rear fenders? I’m a 1947 & 48 Chevy guy, so 1940 details are all new to me, thanks in advance.

On my`40 Special Deluxe 4 door , the id plates are on the passenger side firewall and on the passenger side just inside the front door under the rubber mat just in front of the front seat. The NC inspector said it is very unusual to find the one inside the car after all these years. Not sure if this will help you .....Martinomon

On my 40' Special Deluxe Sedan, the only plate that I'm aware of is on the passenger floor pan side wall just below the door. I had to peel back the floor mat. So be careful not to rip/tear the mat. You can feel the rivets underneath the floor. driving

1940 running boards are mounted to within about 1 inch of the rear fenders. The literature states that this promotes water run-off at the rear of the running boards.
There are 2 types of 1940 Chevy running boards. There are those that take the stainless running board trim, like on the Special Deluxe model and those that have no holes for any running board trim like on the Master 85.
