Can you read between the lines?
Took her for a short 20 mile test drive. All seemed good.
The ONLY abnormal sound seemed to come from under the dash. Speedo/speedo cable area. What would be the best to lube that with?
laugh

OK Russell ok

Dry lubricant in the speedo cable housing such as dry or powdered graphite.

Yup, gotta get under the dash one more time crazy.......well, maybe you can just reach under to unscrew the cable from the speedometer.

Other than that noise, it sounds like you had a G-R-E-A-T time.
Good for you, you deserve it.

Whoopie...! Great news Russell...Now, don't just disappear on us...! Be sure to keep in touch laugh

Without removing the cable you might try some silicone spray...Or maybe some grafite spray...?

Wow, I'm so exited I think I'll go for a spin in my 'ol car...!

Great.......you guys in Georgia and California are still out driving your cars.........I stored mine for the winter bed two weeks ago here in Vermont. You know.........snow, salt on the roads, and C-O-L-D snomank..........yeah the heater works, but all the other stuff doesn't make it much fun......and even Coker doesn't make snow tires in my size..........remember retreads????

Right on Russ. I took mine out for about a half hour on Friday. I can usually drive mine once or twice a month during the winter.

Russ,

What in the world you been doing for 12 years. That's a long, long time. Almost as long as I've been a-tinkering with the 41 project. Anyway, good for you. beermugs yay

Now, that there whine, right there, was probably the car mimicking Marlon Brando from "On the Water Front." It's a-whining "I coulda been a contenda, Charlie, I coulda been somethin, I coulda been somebody, I coulda been a 41. Instead I'm just a bum." Or words to that effect. You know. bike

Ain't it amazin how many Chevrolets (contenders) moan and groan about being compared to a champion - as in the 1941. Alas, and yeah, just mere contenders and nothing more. Ever. Such expressions, lamenting what could have been. are so sad. Yeah, really sad. Agrin

BTW: I agree that a little graphite may cure that there a-whining down to where it's not so distractingly noticeable. But not being a 41, you should be satisfied that it's like a still small voice will always be there. An itch that you can't scratch. Will too! cool

Fixed her right up.
Took the same 20 mile test drive today.
After quite a few start/stops it seemed like I lost a little brake peddle. Came home and readjusted the shoes. I imagine their is a lot of settling in to be expected.

Russ - Congrats!! I remember the first couple times I test drove the '48. Kept looking at the gauges - yep, still got 15 lbs of oil pressure, yep, it's charging, temp is around 160... :-)

Cogratulations Russ!! I remember my first few hundred feet drive in my 47. Didnt even have the front clip on yet. It was like WOW its really does drive, and its shifting too!!! Went the 1.5 miles to the nearest gas station to put in a few gallons to continue the fun for awhile. Took 19 years to get to that point. Never forget that feeling!

Dale,

First you have a great car. Beautiful. bowdown

(now the other boot drops)

I assume that you rebuilt the engine, so how in the world did you keep the temperature down to only 160? Amazing! I had a hard time keeping mine off the "red" until it was broken-in real good. dance
