Does any one have a picture or are you able to describe what a factory bumper jack looks like that was for a 1940 coupe. I know of 2 that are for sale that the owners say are correct for a 40 but they both are totally different. Any help will be appricated.

Thank You

Check with "the toolman". He will have a drawing of the jack. He frequents this site so may contact you when he sees the request. You can find him by searching the directory for "the toolman".

In 1940, Chevrolet offered 2 different bumper jacks for the passenger cars. One was a friction jack and one was a ratchet jack ( and there are several variations/manufacturers of the ratchet jack ). If you want to see drawings of the 2 jacks, go to my website:
www.1940chevrolet.com
Click on the hyperlink on the homepage which says "Chevrolet Jacks". Feel free to email me with any questions. chevy

Thank you ChevyChip & the toolman for your help.
I also want to thank Big Bob.
Both jacks that I found were as shown in the toolmans website now all I have to do is pick which one I want.

Thanks Guys

Sparky,The jack that I would choose would be the ratcheting jack #3653660.---reasons #1---this is the jack that came with the car from the factory. The universal jacks were sold thru the parts dept. and were just that. They were "universal" for all years.---reason #2.---If your car is being judged the ratchet style will look correct if the judges compare it to the 1939's and other 1940's being judged with your car (those 2 years are usually judged together). That is the style jack found in 95% of the cars and will not "confuse" the judges who could possibly not know what the correct jack would look like.Just my opinion

Chevgene,

Made my best deal on the ratcheting one & that was my preference also. Found it in a roadside junk shop. Lucky find for me. Thanks again for your help.
