The nose at the end goes up on the side of the front fender. If you can get them for $275 thats good. I paid Chevy's of the 40's $400 plus shipping.

Andre' If you get the "Rockauto" set. Let us know how they fit, As I wonder why the price difference is between the "Chev Of The Forties". That's a big difference. Thanks!

Don't know if this applies in your case, but the 38 running board mats are sold with and without the metal backing. The metal backing has bend down tabs that stick through odd shaped holes in the running board and are then twisted to lock the running board in place. If your running board has key shaped holes scattered about, the cheaper mat may not have the metal backing.

Some metal backings have bolts instead of twist tabs. They use the same holes. Beamer

The 1940 running boards were copletely different from the prior years. The rubber mat was valcanized onto the metal backing. Chevrolet did not offer a mat only. With that being said you would need a complete metal part of the running board to cement a Filling Station mat onto.

I have a 40 Special Deluxe...got the Rock Auto mats for the cheap $267. The mats were very good quality I thought but were a bit of a job to get on , in the end really came out nice!. My boards are metal and completely smooth and the new mats had about 5-6 1/2 inch wide by 1/4 inch thick ribs that ran just about the lenght of the mateing side of the mats. Since my boards were smooth, I had to make a tool to cut off the rubber strips that would have kept the mats from laying flat on the boards . After a day of design failures , I made a nice tool using razor blades that I could skim along the mat and cut these long narrow strips of rubber off. Once off I used rubber cement and with weights on the mats for a couple days , they came out ok. The fit of the mats on the boards was`nt perfect , but taking my time and laying them out and making sure of where they should be on the boards really helped. There is some room for error where they attach to the car, and that is where i would drag them outwards to get what I needed on the outside lower bend. In the back where they are concave I put a few screws to hold in the rubber where it wanted to pull away . If anyone would like some close up picts. or other info , e-mail me . This job came out excellent I`d say , but now I`m putting on timing gears and not so sure of myself and need to ask some questions soon ......Martinomon

Thank you at all for the Feedback. I´ve got some Pictures from "Martinomon". What should i say, it looks great. My boards have grooves in it, so the biggest problem isn´t a Problem ;-) I ordered the mats today an will keep you up to date. What you can see on the picture are not original Mats, any structured Rubber for universal use. ![[Linked Image from imageshack.us]](http://imageshack.us/a/img846/2599/img2198l.jpg)

If you want to go with vulcanized rubber on your runningboards, I highly recommend Hunley Acuff Runningboards. I had him do mine about 6 years ago and was blown away when I took them out of the box.. they are so nice now I have to paint the car!

Christmas Day, the Mats arrived! They look great and the Quality/Finish seems fine. Next Days i will take Photos. Installation must wait, it's too cold for the glue - and for me . There's no heating in the garage.

I don't have any complaints about our weather here today after watching the evening news. I'm just glad I came through there years ago as it sounds like all the interesting spots I visited are now gone. I feel sorry for those that lost their homes and other major losses. (Yea, I know this don't belong here, so move it)

I agree. It will be years before things get back to normal.I can't believe we're spending billions trying to find life in space ,10,000 light years away, but can't have a major influx of wealth into one of the most populated areas in the world to help out everyday citizens.
Okay 37blue... you can move this post anytime you want.

Hello, News about Running Mats. Yesterday i took the Boards away from my car. The sills are in good condition, except for a small weld. The old terrible Mat was gone in 30 Seconds, condition of the Running Board is very well The Mat fits perfect, also at the holes. But I just do not know what to do with the tip of the mat? I glue to the front fender? New Pictures
