f you have the correct US heater there is only one motor for both functions. There is a lever that diverts the hot air from the heater outlet to the defroster via a damper door,

Been doing some searching but can't seem to find any info on what the heater motor and mounting looked like on the inside.

Tim, I am currently restoring this same heater. Maybe these photo's will be of assistance to you. http://s1117.beta.photobucket.com/user/harold146/library/HeaterThis heater does have 2 motors. One for the main heat and one for the defroster. Each has its own switch and can be run at different speeds according to the climate. IE low for heat in the cab and high for fog on windshield. Good luck, Harold

I also have a 1949 1/2 ton and I have the same heater, It has 2 switches. One for the heater and one for the defrost. The link above says it was only for the '47 & '48's but for some reason the '49's had them also.

The new round style heater was new for 1949 The defroster flipper lever was down on the heater case. The trucks came from the factory with no heater so that indicates the dealer installed a left over 1948 heater in your truck.

That makes sense. So heaters were a dealer option.

They were a dealer installed accessory. An option would have been an item or feature that the dealer ordered with the vehicle order from the factory. an example would be for a truck, an oil bath air cleaner or heavy duty springs. 1955 was the first year a heater could be ordered factory installed..

Thanks for clearing that up. I have been attempting to have my '49 be as correct as possible and this is good info.
