Here are four photos of luggage racks. The red car's and the brown car's match the illustration in the accessories section of my Engineering features manual. The blue car's and the green car's are different yet the green car is supposedly untouched and is Canadian. Is it possible that Canadian luggage racks may be different than their American conterparts?

Pat... I've heard that they were different. Burt Fulmore has one on the back of his Canadian built Cabriolet, and it is the Canadian one you have pictured above as well.

They are indeed different. There are often several differences between US and Canadian manufactured vehicles. Accessories is one.

My 1935 standard canadian built fisher bodied 3w coupe has a usa rack on it , as i bought it at carlise PA swap meet in 1980.

I just purchased the same usa rack for my 1935 standard roadster.

You have to wonder what chevrolet was thinking when they produced parts that are different than the usa ones , considering the much smaller market we are and were. Cost wise doesn't make sense.

But there again the differences between a fisher body and a chevrolet built body ( roadster tourings ) makes no sense either.

There is a local area 1934 chevrolet convertable standard series that has that same canadian rack.

The 34 std convertable is a made up car. It was a 3 window coupe with the top cut off and a 34 cadillac windshield system narrowed to fit sitting on a 33 master frame.

I seem to remember being told that Canadian cars had to have a certain percentage of parts made in Canada or a severe duty was charged on imported parts. Not sure what that was but could be the reason that some parts were different from USA.

No idea Chipper if they were doing that back then, I would figure thats more something from the 60's era ?

Too the best of my knowledge only the luggage rack as a main accessory is different than the USA designed one. But I am prepared to welcome info from others , that other items in chevrolet accessories may be different ??????? Who knows what ?

I am not even sure who to ask or where to search for that info about having to make Canadian parts back in the 1930's for use on Canadian built cars.

In the production figures I have for 1934 Canada for the master series DA, we only produced a total of 17,460 vehicles and CKD chassis including EXPORTS, thats not many verses USA production ?

Even back then we had only 10% of your population total which is about what it still is today.
