The 1940 parking lights originally came with a #63 bulb which is a single filament-single contact bulb. When it was equipped with the optional turn signals the socket was changed to a double contact socket-using a double filament 1154 bulb. That is the same bulb as used in the tail-stop light. If you would install a double contact socket in the parking light and it would require an 1154 bulb. You could use just the one contact-and filament that would be for the parking light. It would be the dimmer 3 candle power side of thee bulb. The 21 C.P. would have been used for the directionals-just don't connect it.

The 21 Candle Power bulb refers to the light out put.If you use an 1154 bulb it has a 3 CP filament and a 21 CP filament. It requires a double contact socket as the bulb had two contact "buttons" on tne end. There is also a plain 21 CP bulb.It is a #1129 and has one contact--it will fit in the same socket as a #63 3 CP bulb--providing there is enough room for the larger glass globe.Check one of your tail lamp bulbs to see what an 1154 bulb looks like and look at the inside of its socket. The 1129 bulb has the same size glass globe as an 1154.

bigbob,

just to add to gene's post, the #1154 is an "indexed" double-contact bayonet base...the index means that the little brass "ears" on the side of the bulb base are not aligned...one is closer to the bottom than the other...that way, the bulb goes in the correct orientation, so that the 3cp circuit (tail light) and the 21cp circuit (brake light) don't get reversed...

ok epi
