I was cleaning up the front floor area of my 30 sedan and discovered the Fisher Body Corp, Job No., and Body No. engraved in the floor board at the front of the seat, just under the seat adjustment knob. Its probably on everybody's car but I don't recall reading about this or any mention of it. All of the numbers match the metal tag on the firewall.

I use Tinypic.com. Try it. It allows you to download your photo. Then use Control C after highlighting second bar. Once back on Forum use Control V to insert photo here.

Here's the link to my picture - Thanks Al, this is great ! The handle is the seat adjuster handle at the center of the front seat.

Terrific! Great shot! Too bad it will be difficult to duplicate. Al W.

"To bad it will be difficult to duplicate"

What I did was cut and square up the area where the numbers are present, stand it on edge and run it through the table saw making a thin wafer piece. On the replacement wood I routed out a section for the original numbered/lettered piece and glued it in place. Retained the vehicle history that way. Use a push stick when making the thin wafer piece in the table saw and be carefull.

(Optional: use the router to make the original numbered/lettered piece thinner and then square it up on the table saw)

Hello whitmoy,
JYD agreed that all 1930 Chevy Sedan cars have this wood engraving. I have a 1931 Coach with two bomber seats up front. A serial number plate is located between the outside of the front passenger seat and the door sill. I have not looked for this wood engraving due to car in storage. Is this wood engraving exclusive to 1930 and earlier?

I went out and looked on my 33 master coupe last night. I didn't find anything like that. I had my hopes built up since I don't have a metal plate either. I see the four nails where the plate was attached at one time, but no plate. Tom

Not all of them are well pronounced like the one pictured. Sometimes you have to rely on shadows. Most of the ones I've seen are from the middle to drivers side...Joe

Hello whitmoy,
I found the body and job number stamping on my 31 Coach. Located on the same floor board (just to the front) of where the right front passenger seat bolts down. Unlike your photo, my stamping has only the numbers. There are no words or letters. Assuming each factory did all the woodwork in house, is it possible that individual workers could be as detailed or plain with the stampings? If they were all covered by mat or carpet, I would think the inspectors wouldn't care. Were these stampings needed in the early part of assembly for identification before tags and plates were installed? The Oakland plant made my car and maybe with an attitude of 'get er done'. Your stamping reflects somewhat more pride in craftmanship. Tell us which plant produced your 30 Sedan.

Because yours if from Oakland yours should have an "O" indicating such followed by the run number of that body style which should match the 2nd line of the trim tag on the firewall. There should also be 3 numbera indication the body style. Example would be on the firewall it says 31559. Stamped into the wood would be 559...Joe

On my 1930 Sport Coupe that was built in Kansas City, the following information is stamped on the wooden cross sill that is in front of the seat:

Fisher Body Corp.
No 30558 Body No KC 1372

On my 1932 Special Sedan that was made in Oakland, it says the following in the wood cross sill:

3368
32569

Hello JYD Hello Joe,
Yes my stamping is plain just as JYD's Oakland made 1932 Special Sedan stamping.
3637
31 551
There is some space between the job number. Also there is no 'O' in front of the body number stamping. My cowl tag does have the 'O' and a space then 3637 on it. Appears as though the different plants decided on what they wanted to see in the stampings. Edit: From whitmoy's photo, I believe his 1930 Sedan was made in Tarrytown, New York. Thanks to Bill Barker's 1931chevrolet.com website information.

I stand corrected. I have 4 of those boards I've saved for some unknown reason, one from 1930, one from 1931 & 2 from 1933 & they all have the complete job numbers on them. But...on my 1933 Standard Sports coupe the floor only has 628 & 16 which does match the firewall information...Joe

You are correct Harrys31 - my 30 sedan was made in Tarrytown, NY. The T5601 Body # on the floor board matches the T5601 on the cowl tag.
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I'm headed to Hershey this week and I hope to see a few more 30's and others and maybe collect some more info on this.
