I've installed turn signals on my '41 coupe, and I'm using 6 volt 1154 dual filament bulbs in the tail and park light assemblies. The system works fine, but I'd like to have more candlepower. Is there a 6 volt bulb with staggered pins like the 1154 but with more candlepower? I'd like to try this approach before moving to LED bulbs. I posed this question at NAPA today, and they had no luck finding the bulb I need. Thanks,
Sid

Not in a standard filament bulb.

If you don't already have plastic lenses, try using plastic taillight lenses. I noticed with my '38 that a plastic lens lets a lot more light through than glass does.

If I change to LED bulbs, do I need to change the flasher unit also?

If you have the standard mechanical flasher you will if you go totally LED. Those depend on the load from the bulbs to function and LEDs don't pull enough current. FYI I've spent the big money on LED taillight bulbs and found them to be no brighter than the incandescent. I bought the bulbs from Highspeed Motors that plug into the BA15 socket.

Maybe I should look into a 3rd brakelight instead.

That's good info on the LEDs. I had considered putting them in my 48. I managed to brighten my tail lights up a bit. I got a little bottle of chrome paint from a hobby shop and painted the reflectors with it. Seemed to help.

When I installed the turn signal system I hadn't needed to look inside the taillight assemblies. When I opened them today I found that the reflectors were painted semi-gloss black! I solved the problem with some gold metallic paint. I would have used silver, but didn't have any handy. Now I'm satisfied with the brightness of the signal lights with standard 1154 bulbs.

Some people get in a hurry and/or don't think about what they are doing and the final result. I have seen many replacement lights painted black inside. Too much trouble to paint the outside one color and the inside another?

Yep, gloss white has the highest reflectivity of any solid paint color. <CLICK> Having said that there may be specialty paints with reflective particles that will reflect more, like the metallic mentioned above. I'd like to see how they compare but I've not yet found a site with that information.
