Is the radio delete plate the same for 1937 and 1938? I looked in the parts book, but I can't even find the delete plate in there; so if someone has the part number, I'd appreciate that as well.

It looks like a 38, but he seems to think it's a 37. I think it's a 38 also. Agrin

No, that one's not right. I don't think it should have the bow tie.

Yes, that's actually the one I was asking about. The seller has emailed me a picture of the back, and it looks good; he assures me it only has surface rust, which is OK by me. I bought another one, but the back (not pictured in the ebay auction) was horribly rusted.
Anyway, this is the one I'm looking for, but Steve/wawuzit says the 37 won't work on my 38.

I think I'll go ahead and buy it as a 38, based on what you and Tiny said. Thanks, Kyle

This isn't a really good picture of the delete plate on my '38. I'll look and see if I have a better one to post.

This is another angle and shows the dash just after I drug the car home from the barn.

I put the radio control parts in my plate (no radio),just for looks. I have another delete plate.

Below is a clock delete plate if you need one.

Hey, Tiny, that 2nd picture helped a lot. Could you give me the dimensions, tho? ONe of you said the 38 plate I need is wider, and I don't know if that means wider accross (L-R), or wider from top to bottom.

Boy, that's a great idea, putting in the radio controls. It creates another problem for me, tho, because my radio head is a mess, all scattered around inside. I think I'll just get a good delete plate and stop there.

The one in this picture and the one Tiny shows is the CORRECT delete plate for 1938. It has the round Chevrolet emblem on it. It's the same as in my 38 coupe>>>>>>ED

This has been an interesting thread. I like to see folks being helped on a relatively difficult question and finally getting the correct answer. I sure wouldn't know what a 38 radio delete plate looks like. monkey

It seems to me that the quest would be for the radio itself but I guess the radio's are pretty scarce and down-right expensive when a nice one is offered for sale.

If the radio is added, then you have that bulky box and heater (a must) up under the dash to contend with. Those things could get in the way of of your feet and hamper activity such as enjoying a drive-in movie or viewing the overlook sights of Cincinnati on a moonlight night. Especially if you got big feet and need the room, for whatever reason. Huh, Eastern Ed? luv2 dance devil Agrin

Have you ever seen this ad? NO orangeupset

Original 38 chevy radio
All needed cables and controls in great working condition
6 Volt with orginal speaker
Plays good and has been checked out.

Have you ever seen this ad? YES Agrin

38 or 39 (maybe a 41) Chevy possibly Dodge. I think radio
control head needs work, one cable missing
Speaker torn ,but could be easily repaired
no returns,as is. really nice addition to your Ford or Packhard. $800

That's why I have no radio. If by some miracle you did see the top ad ,it would be $1500 and was on Ebay 2 minutes and 12 sec. orangeupset

Charlie to give you some ammunition to nit pick posts (that you love to do) I will donate to you this thought...hoping you will have a answer that makes sense.

I don't know why this item is called a "delete Plate" In order to "Delete" something it would have to be there to start with!....OK. What this tells me is one could assume that the car in mention came from the factory with a radio installed and if you did not want it you could say NO and the radio would be removed and a "DELETE PLATE" installed.
Hence the radio was deleted and a "delete plate" was installed to cover up the hole that the radio once occupied.
Now we all know that the radio was a accessory and was not factory installed.....SOOOOOO why is this "empty hole block off plate" called, incorrectly, a"DELETE PLATE"???????
No wonder the English language is so hard to learn..Amen..ED

Interesting story. I have written instructions in my file that suggests the dealers install a control head in each car. This would be a constant reminder to the owner to go back to the dealer and purchase the remainder of the radio.

This may be the reason there so many NOS control heads floating around the country.

As to the delete plate question, I would just delete it.

We never called them delete plates years ago because nothing was deleted. We called it a dummy ot blank-out plate. They were used for the clock opening as well as the lighter and the ash tray on some models. Not to mention the temperature gauge opening on the 1937-1939 Master models.
