My trunk lid has pits in the chrome but works fine. I got a chance to get a new old stock handle and it is not painted red in the recess part. It is suppose to be painted ..right?

BTW. The old one is for sale. I'll post photos later.

I don't have a pre-restoration shot of my trunk handle but it was painted the same as the door handles. Below is a pic of my passenger door handle and you can see traces of the red paint. Below that is my trunk handle after the red had been touched up. I didn't rechrome it.

From what kind of business would I find the "1-Shot lettering enamel #104-L"?
Thanks,

I've seen it at auto paint supply stores and at hobby shops.

Steve.... If you noticed the trunk handle and the passenger door handle are different..although both have the center indentation painted with a red stripe.
If you look at the key hole close you will see that they are different...The round part of the key hole is facing in a different direction on the trunk as opposed to the door handle. They should not be switched...FYI>>>>>>>ED

The 1938 handles had the red paint. Te same handle was used in 1939 and had no stripe.

What other places was the red paint stripe on chrome used in 1938. I have been thinking about this since some 38's have stripes and some don't. Grant

The nose of the hood bird, the wide horizontal bars in the grill, the grill emblem, the door and trunk handles and the wide center hood side trim. If you have bumper guards the horizontal indentions get black paint to match the center stripe on the bumpers.

Chev of the 40's has the red and blue emblem paint for hubcaps, hood trim, grill, bumper guards, etc. Works good. JIM

Also, if you have a black car (and maybe others) the belt line stripe and wheel stripes are red. Beamer
