Hi all,

The transmission in my '28 AB Canopy Express is in poor shape (gears really worn, suspected broken indent spring in shifter housing, loose bushings).

I have an extra 4 speed tranny from a LO truck, whose innards look pretty good.

The length of the two transmissions seems to be the same (10 5/8 inches).

Will the 4 speed bolt into the AB? At first glance, looks like it might.

Opinions?

Thanks, Dean

I really don't know if it is a bolt on or you have to use the clutch housing for the 4 speed. In either case it should work.

Thanks, Chipper. I'll try it and keep you posted.

My 1928 Chevrolet one-ton chemical fire engine came with a four-speed transmission.
I have two three-speed transmissions and a four-speed transmission.
I have found that the universal joints are not inter-changeable. The universal joint for the four-speed transmission is larger and will not work on my three-speed transmission. The speedometer gear on the universal joint is also not inter-changeable.

Is the second 4-speed transmission in good shape, or could you combine the two 4-speeds into one good 4-speed?

I only have one four-speed transmission (condition unknown). I recently purchased it as a spare for my 1928.
