I replaced the fuel pump on a 235 motor and just before the carburetor I have a glass filter. I noticed that the filter does not fill up, sometimes it fills up half way and then it goes empty when the car is running. Is this normal or is there something wrong?

Thank you for your help

I'd check the output of the fuel pump, might also want to check the supply to the fuel pump from the tank to make sure its not plugged. Another long shot is a rust hole or split in the fuel line under the car causing it to suck air, this will usually show up as a fuel leak under the car.

It's normal for the bowl to not fill all the way. Don't know about going completely empty. But if the engine doesn't stumble, I guess that's OK, too.

< CLICK for video > Here are the fuel levels in the glass bowls on my '54 235 3104 pickup at idle after driving a few miles. Fuel filter bowl usually fills completely after the engine is shut off.

Durex 986640 fuel filter and '54 fuel pump cobbled together from bottom of all metal pump and top of glass bowl pump. Rochester "B" carb.

Thank you LonnieC for the video, I dropped the tank no rust and blow out the lines no dirt. The car runs, it's just the bowl fills up half way like the video, but sometimes it goes empty but keeps running.

Thanks again
