I have a recently restored 29 Chevy roadster. I am looking for suggestions for how to hold up the hood side sections while inspecting the motor. Recently I saw a Model A Ford with a device with a spring and an extension hook that wrapped around the inside supporting bar and the hook held up the section of the side of the hood cover when it was raised. Is this an after-market item or is there another way to hold up the sides of the hood when you are working on the engine. Right now it is a two person job and I am wondering if there is another trick to keeping the side hood from falling back down when you are working on the engine. When the car was new in 1929, how did Chevrolet recommend holding the hood up while working on the engine?

My '31 hood has an original hook on inside of hood behind lift handle, and this hook simply hooks onto the radiator brace to hold the hood in open position. Mind you, only one side can be held up at a time, but it beats letting it lie flat against other side. Not sure if they had this feature in '29, but would be easy to make.

The hooks were a mid 1931 improvement.

I have those "hooks" on my 30, they kee the hood clear of the cowl band and work well.

Not used on '32. There is not place to put them with handle and rods in the way.

Hello MMM_Roadster, I have a 1931 Coach. I went to the "Filling Station" web site and typed 'hood brace' in the discription box and '1931' and 'car' in the optional boxes and then clicked GO. A list of related items appeared for hoods on 1931 models. Two items that may be of interest to you are GR-238 (Hood Bracket-Hold Open 1929-1931) and VT-41 (Hood Prop Set Universal-Stainless Steel 1929-1935). Sometimes, you will get a decent discription of the item by going to 'more info'. I would think, that the people at the Filling Station, would help you with any questions you may have regarding their products.
