I am working on the side mount brackets for my 31 sedan. These are pictured on page 4 of FS catalog, p/n GM1022K. I want to dis-assemble the side mount rods so I can clean and paint them. How is the short rod attached to the socket? Is it threaded, pressed or pinned? It looks like the short rod locks the long rod in place in the socket.

Yes, the short rod screws into the side of the coupling piece at an angle and tightens into a groove in the longer rod at a set location. The operating length of both rods is set by the double bolts at the ends (one secured under fender, the other under dash.

A pipe wrench will really mess it up. I had new hardware made in stainless steel, won't rust and looks good. I do have an extra repro if you need it.

Thanks, guys. I was kidding about the pipe wrench. They have been soaking in Kriol for two days now. Will fire up the propane torch in a day or two.
