My 31 sport coupe did not appear to have running board trim on it when I got the car. Did all 31s have running board trim? Thanks.

Jim.

My 31 sports coupe has trim on three sides and I believe that is the way they were made. That item is also one of the toughest to find for replacement. I can't remember who it was on the chat site that just made his own out of stainless. Hope this will help.

Yes, trim all 4 sides. Some were polished aluminum, some were stainless steel. My original boards were heavily damaged but still had the original stainless pieces on 3 sides, outer edge piece was missing. Bouyght used boards from California, came with some small scraps of brittle aluminum trim some edges, nothing on outer edge. I made new outer edges from thin stainless, each piece starts about 1.3" wide, pretty easy pieces to make if you have a vice and a piece of 3/16" rounded edge bar to use as a form. Just cut piece to proper finished length and clamp stainless to bar leaving about 1/4" above bar and use a block of wood to gradually bend over the bar to get curve similar to top outer edge of RB. Once that is OK, set trim on running board clamping in place in short lengths and curl lower edge under board (again a block of wood may be needed. Once this is done to 90degree angle, remove some of balance. leaving about 6 or 7 tabs to turn fully under edge to hold trim in place. I can drop a photo in members section if you need to see setup and finished product. By the way, got stainless free, neighbor was removing his stainless Selkirk chimney, excellent outer skin, perfect for this job.

I have a set of stainless reproduction trim for a sedan that I bought in the 70s and will soon be installing. I can send pictures if it will help.

Thank you for all the information and offers of assistance. I have a set of brand new running board trim. It looks complete and like it is made of aluminum. The instruction page that came with the set says it is from the Paul Hammond Company, 1913 Tecumseh Road, Lansing, MI 48906. The date on the page is December 1967. My father probably bought this when he first purchased the car in the mid-60's. I was going to try to upload the instruction page for others to see (I have it scanned in PDF) but I have not figured out how to do that.
