Can anyone tell me the thickness of the metal on the brake drums for a 31? My brakes squeal like crazy and I know the drums have been cut down at least once, and are therefore too thin. The linings are the correct type. The car had over 90k miles on the odometer. I have spare drums, but I would like to determine if they are thick enough to work with before I put time and money into refinishing them. I have not seen specs for the drums in the owners manual or the service manual. Thanks for any info you can provide.

Jim.

There are several post regarding brake squeal. I have had a similar experience and do not think the drums are whats causing the problem. Not sure of the thickness but they will need to be ground as they are steel and not cast iron.

You can see original thickness by looking at outer edge. A good set of calipers (machine shop will have) can tell you what you have left at thinnest spot. They may never have been turned.
