I thought I would post a personal item here. I hope it's appropriate.

I was diagnosed with incurable lung cancer last week (never smoked), and naturally one of my first jobs is to figure out how to get rid of all my stuff. My son wants the '66 Corvair turbo. The '88 Fiero 3800 supercharged is up in the air. And I will probably have to sell my beloved '20 490. I will try to find a local buyer that cares about the car and will drive it. But it may come up for sale nationally. If so, I will start with a VCCA ad.

I'll still be kicking around for awhile yet. But I doubt I'll be doing any more work on the car. VCCA Chat is the BEST forum ever.

Don, I am sure that is a shock to you, and it is to us also. I hope members in your area help you in any way possible. Looking forward to many more posts on the Forum. Good Luck.

Don, please add my thoughts and prayers to the long list! Stay positive, my friend!!! The ol' 490 went through a lot of tough times, and it's still kicken'! If you're looking to buy a new car (Chevy, of course), that's all you'll see on the road. It's the same with negative and positive thoughts. Keep focusing on the positive thoughts! The power of positive thinking is a strong, strong medicine! We're all with you and wish you the very, very best on the journey!!! - The Ol' Coach

Don....Although I have never met you & don't know you,I hear you. We all have to take that Journey sooner or later.
Nobody escapes it. I think you are on the right track by Having you ducks in a row..That will take a load off your mind.
Just don't let the opinion of doctors bum you out they are only human and don't know everything...If I would have listened to them, I would have been dead years ago. Until I realized they were prescribing me drugs (that they were getting cash kickbacks for prescribing them to me and they could care less that they were making me sick) that was many years ago..When I told them to stick their pills were the sun don't shine and accepted the fact that I did not need them to die...I got better and I am still here and doing fine..Wishing you the best...Mind over Matter Works...ED1938

Don,

I am very sorry to hear the sad news. You have been a great VCCA friend to many of us here on the forum. I have always enjoyed reading your posts and will be forever grateful to you for the 490 battery boxes you most generously had made for a lucky few. Thank you so much for your kindness and advice with our beloved 490s.
You and your family are in our prayers. I hope you will be able to get out and enjoy your beloved 1920 Chevrolet 490 many more times on the back roads of Colorado. Please post us a picture or two or three of you enjoying a Sunday drive.
We all will be thinking of you on our next ride.

Kindest Regards,

Thank you all for your kind thoughts. The many offers of support have been overwhelming - and humbling. Just to let you know, my attitude so far has been so positive, I've surprised myself. From what I've been told, I don't expect to kick my cancer, but I'll relegate it to a small corner with positive thoughts. I start 3 weeks of daily brain radiation tomorrow. After that, who knows?

As for my 490, I've been working with a local whiz-kid to finish up my Corvair EFI turbo project, and he may be interested in buying my car for his business. It doesn't need much more work to be done, and he would be the ideal guy for it. And (rare for out here), he comes from a Chevy family. I have my fingers crossed.

I learned yesterday that I have a form of non-smoker lung cancer that responds to a brand new genetic treatment (pill) rather than chemo. I'm told I may even be around to debut my '66 Corsa EFI turbo project at the Corvair National Convention in Kalamazoo next July. And I may be able to finish up my 490 after all! chevy

I really wish you will be successful to beat your illness and be able to drive your Chevrolets for many more years. If I can help you in some way with the 490, please tell me.

That is indeed great news. I am sure it was received better by you than us. But rest assured we are encouraged by the news.

All - I'm back. I've been through a whirlwind of activity the past couple days, but I'm finally settling back down to a quasi-normal state. I plan to continue following VCCA Chat. Thanks to all for your kind thoughts and words.
