Yes, I'm still messing with that drag link. I have decided to let a professional remove the rusted end plug before I do permanent damage. He is also going to tig weld the replacement balls into the various arms. Before I go this route I want y'alls opinion on the new style tie rod ends that Chevs of the 40s sells. As I understand it you just screw off the original ends and screw on the new units which do not have the spring loaded ball and seat system. I guess the shaft of the new end goes through the old ball hole in the steering arm ends. Since the drag link end replacement balls don't fit my steering arm or Pittman I also wanted to give you some part #s to see what the last guy threw on this car. Pittman arm #597707GM2 and steering arm #593057GM33. I forgot to bring in the other steering arm # but if anyone has it I would like to double check this also. Also do you think it is ok to go with these unoriginal parts. I'm oviuously not building a show car but I would like to steer correctly and safely. Thanks for all your input in the past.

The right steering are should read 593093 and its part number is 593051.The left arm shoud read 593057 and part number is 593055.The pitman arm 597707 and part number 597703.(the casting or forging numbers not the same as part number). If the pitman arm and drag link were replaced with the kit that contained both as a change over (came out in 1940)it may have a different forging number.I wouldn't change to the ball type modern tie rod ends as the spring in the rod are to absorb road shock-they are there for a reason. If you need an extra spring or screw I have some-rather than buying a whole kit.....The Wisconsin Region VCCA is having a car show Sunday at Andrew Chevtolet.Stop up and find me.Anyone from the club knows me-they will be the workers.Just ask for Gene Schneider

I may be able to make it late on Sunday. I am going to do overtime this weekend. I find OT to be the best way to pay for parts.
