My truck was produced in Dec. 1946 which means it probably was not licensed until 1947.
Is there any pros or cons as to calling it a 1946 or 1947?? devil
It is currently titled as a 1947 (it was this way when I bought it) but I am leaning towards having the title corrected to show 1946.
Thoughts will be appreciated.

Harold...I would let "sleeping dogs lie" No use in opening a can of worms...You know how legal bureaucrats are... you try to be honest and end up being treated as a bad guy.
If you ever sell the car explain the situation to the buyer and let him/her make that decision.
As long as you got a good clear title and plates your OK.
......GOOD LUCK....ED

Some states registered vehicles by their model year and others registered it by the actual year of registration. The 1946 trucks were produced until the Spring of 1947 and were considered 1946 models by Chevrolet.

Harold,

Eastern Ed has a point and is good advice if changing it to a correct 1946 would be a huge hassle. There is, though, the satisfaction and peace of mind that come with having the correct year on the title.

NC is really bad about vehicle registration, especially when bringing in one from out of state. (I don't know if the latter applies in your situation or not.) Nonetheless, I did change a title on a pickup once that had the wrong year on it. (This involved an instate vehicle.)

Because it would worry me like an itch I couldn't scratch, I would research the serial number (what year to what serial numbers, etc.) and, with paperwork (downloaded, maybe) to back me up, get the title changed. Whatever it takes and no matter the hassle, if any. But that's just me.

Your call,
Charlie computer

BTW: There are internet sites that list the serial numbers for different year Chevrolets. I can't remember one off the top of my head. Maybe someone reading this will know.

BTW2: Please take my advice. Prior to your going go to the DMV, stop by Wal-mart or some place similar and pick up a nice box of high end and quality CHOCOLATES - a ten to fifteen dollar ($10-15) box would be about right. Choose something made by Dove, Godiva or Girarodilo (sp). When it's your turn in line, smile (important) and present them to the clerk (at DMV) and say, "These are for you to share." (pause then say) "I have a problem with the title of my vehicle that I hope you can help me resolve." Or words to that effect. She will, then, go out of her way to help you. Will too! Guaranteed!

Eastern Ed,

They are state contractors in NC. Thus not state employees.

Just for the record, I go to the same DMV office each time. I either take nice chocolates or a big, 32-package box of variety snacks. They like to see me come in and they are always helpful and pleasant to deal with. Money well spent, I believe.

Charlie....So by your tactics you make it impossible for the person who is not armed with the knowledge of what these employees expect (due to you setting the presidents) to be treated with fairness & courtesy ???? Good Job..May the bird of paradise fly up your nose (as the old song goes)....Honest Eastern ED.

Since it was built in dec 46 its a 47,I think the first half year of 47s looked like the 46 body style.

Last time I did that in a clerk and recorders office it was a huge box of pastry. I was informed I was a day late as every one in the office had gone on a diet. Did notice however the next day the box was there with about 1/2 an uneatern doughnut. talk
