You need to find the engine block number- a seven digit# starting with 3. Example: 3835911 would be a '55 second series to '57, stamped on the flat area near the distributor. I have seen a case where the # wasn't there----perhaps ground off for some reason? Alot of folks have the decode with 'Chevgene' the most accurate usually.

the data number on the side is CON2 J167, I found out the J is for Oct, 16 is the day of the month, 7 means the year 57. but what does the con 2 mean? and for some reason it takes the water pump from a 54. And the there is no cast numbers on it blow the fuel pump or behind the starter

Thanks again

That is not the casting number.....the casting number is behind the starter.
