I have a 30 Chevy 4 door sedan recently pulled out of 15 years in storage in a garage. I pulled the starter while checking another problem and discovered the bottom (?) half of the flywheel area is packed solid, and I do mean SOLID, with dogfood. Obviously I stumbled onto the food cache for the previous owners mice. Any ideas on how to clean this stuff out of there ? The shop vac will only reach so far.

How about duct-taping some small diameter hose or tubing to the end of your shop vac hose?
Or, you could buy a very small, hungry dog. Good luck!

JYD is only providing advice because he wants the dog food when you get it out of there!

Thanks Dog ! I'll put the face shield on, line up the barn cats, crawl under there and see what happens !
These mice were particular... they put the dogfood in the flywheel area and the rear seat cushion stuffing in the exhaust pipe & muffler ! didn't want to mix things up !!

when i got my 30 yrs ago it too was packed with mice stuff in the flywheel area. i saw what i thought was clutch lining flaking off looking thur the timing hole. i did pull the trans to replace the clutch and cleaned out the area. i guess those mice love that place to call home.

That's just another reason to buy a set of those after market rubber bell housing timing hole covers that were talked about while back in a post...they are sold by a few of the usual old Chevy parts suppliers. I would only use them if the car was being stored away for awhile, (as a mouse deterrent) don't use them on a "driver" clutch needs air circulation.....ED
I was only wrong one time in my life so far. But that time I was right, and only thought I was wrong....ED

I thought my clutch was coming apart also ! Thanks for the tip on the timing hole cover, especially only for storage. This afternoon I'm pulling the bottom cover , hope to get it all cleaned out.
