hi there,
where would I find a replacement carbon thrust bearing for my 1934 chev standard sedan.
I have removed the existing one and it is chipped on one side.
It may still be servisable but if not, where do I buy another one?

Two suppliers for your clutch parts incl the graphite bearing- The Filling station and Gary Wallace in St. Louis. F.S. wants $95 for the graphite brg. F.S. has an impressive catalog but G.W. is often the more likely to have the part you need. Those little springs that hold the steel insert to the press. plate arms are important- if yours are rusted or broken buy new ones. Your clutch disc probably can get new friction surfaces in Austr and the p.plate/flywheel resurfaced. The $$$$$$ add up but why do it over?

I picked up one off of eBay. There is a lot of guys selling NOS parts for a reasonable price. Ebay has helped me tremendously with different parts that are hard to find for a good price. I don't know how eBay is down under, but give it a try it may surprise ya'. Ken

Hi blueAU
I have the throw out bearings for 29-37 Chevrolet except 1933-34 Standard CC & DC models which doesn't do any good. Here is a link http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/parts/1929_41/41cp018.html
to the 1941 Chevrolet parts manual listed on the Old Online Chevy Manuals website showing the different part number for the 33-34 Standard compared to the Master. I will check my stock again but almost sure that I don't have the one you need. I don't know what the difference is between the two. Maybe someone on the this site can shed some light on it.

hi there Bob,
thank you for the information.
I too do not know the difference between a DC (mine) and the master parts, except the numbers.
What is the DC standard 34 part number, BTW?
My bearing is chipped on one corner, but may be serviceable for many years to come? I have reinstalled it for now, but in the fullness of time, would like to acquire a new correct part.

when the gearbox was out, I removed the flange collar to the input shaft,(it was leaking oil) and found that it only had a scroll the retain the oil, and it was not doing that very well after 78 years on the road. So all i could do was replace the gasket (from you excellent kit) and replace the gearbox. I will have to put up with it leaking for the next 78 years?

regards
Peter

This company Obsolete Chevrolet Parts says they have your carbon clutch bearing. See link. The Chevy number for this bearing is 473121.

As far as your transmission leak going, yes, you probably will have to put up with some leakage. You probably need a new flange collar and/or input shaft which is probably not available. You could bore out the flange collar and fit a tighter fitting bushing, but it never was oil tight. In those days a certain amount of leakage was expected. Remember those were days of total loss lubricating systems (not used by Chevy).

"Total loss" lubrication was not specifically used by Chevrolet but most british makes used a long time after Chev sealed up. The British refered to it as "self applied rust prevention" but that didnt work either.

I snagged a TOB for Peter on ebay. Seller did not know what it was. $20.00 shipped to me.
I am hoping to get it to the Post Office this week.
