I have a 1953 3100 pickup. I would like to put decals on my air and oil filters, but would like to do it correctly. Anyone have any photos? Thanks, Chris

Chris,

I checked your old posts and see that you have an oil bath air cleaner. Here is what I found about decals and placement on the air cleaner. Looks like the same oil bath decal was used on all years of AD trucks.

I've posted some of these pics previously. Hope I'm not boring those who have already seen them.

This press-on decal from the Filling Station seems to best match the decal shown on original pics of oil bath air cleaners. The "AC" logo is white. The other areas that appear white are actually clear, so they look black when the black air cleaner shows through. The spacing and style of the letters and borders appear to match the pics of the original decal.

Tips:
> Trim the edges of the decal close to the red border, but do not cut into the border. This reduces the amount of the low gloss clear edge that will be against your black air cleaner that will probably be glossier. A straight edge and razor blade work better than scissors. I used scissors
> Clean ALL the dust off of the air cleaner where the decal will attach.
> Use the pics of original air cleaners for placement of the decal.
> Use a toothpic or other item to gently press against any small air pockets, especially in the clear areas where the black air cleaner shows through. Those areas should look uniformly black. I also used a pencil rubber eraser to press out air pockets.

Decals that didn't work:

1937-47 Oil Bath Air Cleaner (All) (Water Transfer) = $5.00 (This item may be out of stock)

This decal is thin, laid onto my air cleaner well, and was my first choice until ... After I attached it, I saw that it was printed wrong. The "AC" logo that looked white against the backing paper was actually clear. So the "AC" looked black when attached to the air cleaner.

> Classic Parts and Chevs of the 40's
Just as the Packard decal, the "AC" logo was clear, so it looked black when attached to the black air cleaner. The top and bottom stripes are blue instead of black. That is the decal on my air cleaner in the photo in my signature line taken before I replaced the decal with the Filling Station decal.

> Jim Carter Truck Parts decal was totally different to the pics of the original air cleaner decal. Perhaps it was copied from an earlier model(?)

Good luck with your air cleaner. No info about your oil filter.

I bought this air cleaner for my 1954 Chevy 3600 truck. It came in the original AC box. Photo of the decal & the box. Hope this helps.

Hi George -

Thanks for the picture. I couldn't find the part number in the 29-54 or 29-57 MPC. Will you post a photo of the air cleaner? Does it look like mine?

Thanks,

- Lonnie

You may be able to get oil filter decal info from Patrick @ D. & D. Antique Auto parts. I've purchased many parts from him. Very good nos parts seller. See his web page below:

Oil Filter Decals.
I tried to get Patrick's photos to show up at his website.
On my computer, the oil filter photos do not show up.
I found another link to view these photos.

Yep - your air cleaner looks just like mine.

A 1954 Truck RPO booklet shows the air cleaner with the rectangular decal.

I snagged the sheet from a web site, but didn't record the source. Anyone have the link?

I don't know what model years used the curved air cleaner decal; which type of air cleaners; car or truck. Your NOS had a hand written label for model years 1950 through 1958. Chevs of the 40s has it listed for 1954, plus other years. But also has a retangular decal with blue listed.

The '54 oil filter is also shown in the first row of the RPO sheet.

Does anyone have a picture of correct decal and decal placement on an oil bath air cleaner on a '51 Chevy passenger car?
